President's Letter

On behalf of the entire Board of the Rocky River Education Foundation, I would like to thank all of our friends and supporters and the staff and administration of Rocky River City Schools for helping make last year a resounding success for the Foundation. Once again, we have had many accomplishments thanks to your commitment and dedication. Our Foundation moved forward on many fronts and continues to lay the groundwork for even greater successes in the future.

Our annual Fundraiser last March, “A Night on the Town,” was a special evening for all. The event was a sellout success for the Foundation. I would like to recognize and thank our Presenting Sponsor, First Federal of Lakewood, for their generous support of the event and our Foundation. I also want to thank and recognize our Event Sponsors, Brindza, McIntyre and Seed LLP, Legacy Capital Partners, The Soter Group at Morgan Stanley, Squire Sanders (US) LLP and Western Reserve Partners LLC, as well as our corporate sponsors, David & Elaine Cook and Thompson Hine LLP. A very special “thank you” goes out to our Co-Chairs, Kerry Capka and Kendal Purohit, and the entire Fundraising Committee for putting together such a fabulous night. Don’t miss next year’s event on March 21, 2015 at Westwood Country Club!

For the 2013-2014 school year, we hit a record high of grant funding of over $48,000. Students, teachers and staff from every school in the District benefitted from our efforts. Here are just a few highlights: First at Goldwood, we were able to grant a large amount towards the fabulous new Goldwood Playground. At Kensington, we were able to double our grant amount to the library for the purchase of brand new biographies. The Middle school was able to benefit from several grants including participation in the National History Day Program which allowed the students some impressive awards and recognition. Among the several grants that helped support educational activities at the high school included assisting in the expansion of the choral music library. The funding for all of the grants awarded last year is solely due to your contributions.

In addition to our grant program, RREF kicked off funding efforts for the Rocky River City Schools Speaker Series. The foundation had a special fundraising effort at its annual auction in March and raised just under $15,000 for the RRCS Speaker Series to bring authors and or speakers to our schools annually through the district.

The Foundation awarded $45,000 in scholarships that we administer to graduating seniors at the High School Awards Assembly last May. I want to personally thank all of our scholarship donors, many of whom set up scholarships with us in remembrance of loved ones. Your dedication to helping the students of Rocky River pursue their dreams and aspirations is to be applauded and commended.

Please visit our website at and our Facebook page to see what is going on with the Foundation, and look for more content this year.

Finally, I am excited to report that we have over $39,000 available for grants during the current school year. We will award grants in November and March and cannot wait to see the creativity, passion and energy of our teachers and staff that shine through in the grant applications. Thank you for helping this Foundation have such a positive impact on the students in the Rocky River City Schools as well as the Rocky River Community. Let’s keep the momentum growing!

Thank you for your support,

Michelle M. Pike

President RREF
